Cadets isn't all about studying history and military theory...
No, in fact, we often get to take part in some of these roles. Living some of these roles is absolutely part of the cadet experience.
For us, possibilities range from Live Fire exercises and bivouacs with the Army, to parachuting courses, climbing and abseiling, tactical
exercises and more....
Cadets in the unit also get to witness military installations firsthand - recently, in 2006, the unit went on an excursion to the RAAF Richmond
Air Force Base to view their air show; in 2007, the unit toured the USS Kittyhawk.
Weapons?
One event that cadets will certainly be offered the opportunity to participate in is a live-firing rifle event, whether it be firing .22 small-bore
for the 206 Championship Trophy, vintage WWI/II .303 Lee Enfields, or modern military F88 Austeyrs or F89 Minimis.

The unit holds at least four .22 championship shoots a year; the collective results of a shooter over these four events will determine the unit
champion marksman, a title that comes with its own trophy at end-of-year presentations. Often, once a year, unit members will also be given an opportunity
to fire .303 Lee Enfield Rifles, the very weapons used by diggers of WWI and WWII.
Cadets are also occasionally presented with opportunities to practise with and fire the F88 Austeyr - the assault rifle of the Australian Army. 206 ACU is sometimes
invited to participate in activites such as these with its Army Reserve foster unit, 5 Combat Services Support Battalion (5CSSB). In addition, live
fire events and WTSS training are usually also conducted on AFX camps.
USS Kittyhawk Tour 2007
In 2007, 206 ACU was privileged to be the only Army Cadet Unit in Australia to tour the USS Kittyhawk on its stopover in Sydney. A contingent of cadets boarded the aircraft carrier on a guided tour by US sailors.

Army Cadet Exchange
Starting in 2007, the Australian Army Cadets joined the worldwide Army Cadet Exchange (ACE) program, which, as the name suggests, sends army cadets on exchange to countries
such as the UK, Canada, the US, Germany, Austria, the Cayman Islands, and more. Several members of 206 have been included in Army Cadet Exchanges in the past, following a gruelling
selection process that admits only the most worthy of cadets to represent Australia.
