The Australian Army Cadet Corps
provides
young Australians with the opportunity to learn, develop & practice
many interesting, fun and valuable skills - especially
leadership. It is the only government sponsored youth
group in Australia. Currently
there are over 25,000 young Australians enjoying their involvement
in tri-service cadet units throughout the country so we must be doing
something right! Become part of a unique, exciting and challenging
organisation that will drive you to exceed your best.
Why not join us and become a new member of the
206 Army
Cadet Unit (ACU) at North Sydney? 206 ACU has a long and distinguished
history of service, having been founded in 1917 and just
celebrated our 90th Anniversary. Join us,
make your mark, rise to the challenges and have a great
time doing it!
Cadet Basic Training
As part of your cadet training you will receive instruction
in fieldcraft, radio communications, weapons safety & handling,
first aid, survival, roping, drill, field navigation,
small unit fieldcraft exercises as well as leadership & initiative training.
Unique Maroon Beret Training
Our unit, 206 ACU, conducts challenging specialist
training for its new recruits. Upon successful completion
of your recruit training you will become a fully-fledged member of the
unit and earn the right to wear our prized maroon beret. To earn your
maroon beret you will need to demonstrate satisfactory competency
in unit dress, drill, conduct, physical fitness as well
as general basic training and field skills. Our unit is
one of a very few cadet units within Australia authorised to
wear the maroon beret. Within the regular Army the maroon beret is
reserved for the Parachute Battalion (3RAR).
Adventure Training
A very exciting part of your cadet calendar will be undertaking voluntary adventure training. Tackle challenging adventure
training such as: roping & rappelling, boating &
canoeing, small unit tactics, powered motor boating skills, parachuting & live fire
exercises & firearms safety to name a few.
Where else are you going to get a chance to do all
this?
Cadet Camps
Probably the most thrilling aspect of our annual training program is the camps
(bivouacs) we run on weekends and during school holidays. It's
on these camps you'll put all your hard won skills
and training to the ultimate test. You'll also have the
time of your life "out bush" with your friends.
Every year you will also participate in a 7-day Annual Field
Exercise (AFX) at the Singleton Army base in Oct (2009) as well as
4 weekend bivouacs (1 per term).

Promotion
After successful completion of your maroon beret then
intermediate and
advanced cadet training, interested
cadets will be invited to enrol in cadet promotion
courses. As cadets advance in experience and proficiency
they may progress from the rank of Cadet to Lance Corporal,
Corporal, Sergeant, Warrant Officer right up to the most
senior cadet rank of Cadet Under Officer (CUO). The sky
is the limit - how high do you want to go?
Safety
We take all reasonable steps to reduce the level of risk
in every activity and to ensure we have appropriate first
aid and medical treatment resources available. While
we don't anticipate an emergency, we like to know that
we are adequately prepared.
